“Zen” is a powerful and evocative work that explores themes of contrast, structure and repetition through a monochromatic palette. This large-scale work is divided into three panels, each using a range of blacks, whites and shades of gray to depict abstract bookcases. The central panel, rendered in deep blacks, is framed by two panels in lighter grays and whites, creating… a striking visual dialogue between light and dark.
The textured application of oil paint to the three panels provides depth and tactile richness. The abstract representation of books and shelves suggests a composition that is both organized and dynamic, inviting viewers to reflect on the relationship between order and chaos, presence and absence.

Sophie Dumont is a contemporary French painter born in Paris in 1964. She currently lives and works in Normandy. Her work, primarily oil on canvas, explores the memory of places through abstract landscapes, stylized libraries, and studio interiors. Through the layering of numerous paints and subtle collages, she constructs structured compositions where matter, light, and color interact. Her work is distinguished by a balance between architecture and pictorial sensibility. Exhibiting for over twenty years in France and internationally, notably in Germany, Canada, Belgium, and Italy, Sophie Dumont's work is now featured in numerous private and museum collections.
