About this artwork
The depicted landscape defies easy categorization as either a study of nature or an internal pictorial space. While its elements are clearly identifiable—a blue lake, green tree formations in the background, vibrant red and orange bushes in the foreground, and yellow and light transitional tones beneath an open sky—its appearance resists any stable interpretation. The forms seem dissolved, blurred, almost damaged: as if the surface itself had rebelled… against the clarity of the motif.
This painterly strategy creates a tension between familiarity and alienation. The landscape is recognizable yet remote. Its contours appear scratched, fragmented, resulting in a stark, raw visual effect. The color palette—initially vibrant and inviting—tips toward the unreal, as it is not contained by precise form but exists in a state of transition.
Stefan Görres is a painter, photographer, and digital artist; he uses digital painting based on photographs to artistically explore the mutability of our perception. His technique combines traditional painting with digital innovation, distorting everyday motifs and lighting situations and transforming them into new, surreal realities. His works play with illusion and reality and powerfully convey the emotion of constant change: "Nothing is as it was."
