About this artwork
“If in a painting the bad moods of the painter, his turbid melancholies, his mistakes, his unbridled ambitions condense and express themselves, rest assured that there, at that point, you will find my shadow, the shadow of Blue.” With these words Ennio Flaiano, in his book Autobiography of Prussian Blue, establishes a deep bond between himself and the work of a painter, and identifies himself with the color Blue, to which he gives a body and a breath…
of life. From here I draw inspiration for my work “The shadow of Blue – homage to Ennio Flaiano”, dedicated to the great Italian screenwriter, writer, journalist, humorist. On the white canvas, translucent stripes of Prussian blue welcome and let the light slide away, producing a dark shadow around. In that shadow nest the moods of the painter, of Flaiano, of me, of Blu. There, in the shadow of Blu, the torments, the angularity, the critical thought, the passion, the voracity of spirits that, even without knowing each other, merge in art, take shape.

Stefano Di Loreto is an award-winning painter and sculptor based in Italy whose works have been exhibited in prestigious art events nationwide, such as the 57th International Art Exhibition La Biennale di Venezia in 2017, as well as in the United Arab Emirates, the United States, the United Kingdom, France and the Netherlands. Di Loreto uses his art as a tool to raise awareness in society on issues such as climate emergency, pollution, globalization but also to stimulate the human soul to a more interior and profound reflection on time, consciousness and ethics of contemporary man.
