About this artwork
The fresco on canvas is inspired by the novel "Triumph of Death" by Gabriele d'Annunzio, published in 1894. The protagonist of the novel is D'Annunzio's typical decadent hero: an esthete, endowed with a profound sensitivity that makes him despise and reject mediocrity of life, weak and introspective, for whom human reality proves hopeless and vain. He becomes the symbol of modern man's inability to live existence due to an incessant intellectual… analysis of things. Even the love for his woman is not comforting, on the contrary, it becomes the main obstacle to spiritual elevation. All attempts fail, so the hero gives in to the call of death!
In a recent interview at the Dannunziano Festival, the artist declared that with this work he also intends to highlight the deteriorated relations of international politics, linked only to partisan interests, of which the war in Ukraine is only the first dramatic evidence!
« My art is a mirror of contemporary man: the deeper one looks, the more consciousness is stirred. This is where beauty comes from. »
Stefano Di Loreto is an award-winning painter and sculptor based in Italy whose works have been exhibited in prestigious art events nationwide, such as the 57th International Art Exhibition La Biennale di Venezia in 2017, as well as in the United Arab Emirates, the United States, the United Kingdom, France and the Netherlands. Di Loreto uses his art as a tool to raise awareness in society on issues such as climate emergency, pollution, globalization but also to stimulate the human soul to a more interior and profound reflection on time, consciousness and ethics of contemporary man. He has created a unique and recognizable style that he called "Conceptual Deconstruction".
