About this artwork
I started this series during the corona pandemic. Solitude is my artistic engagement with intellectual and spatial confinement. It's about the feeling of solemn loneliness and contemplation, i.e. deeply inner self. This feeling almost always catches up with me when I'm in a rocky landscape. As a child I grew up next to a quarry and often played illegally there. There was a fascination and a certain threat from the rock at the same time.
I often… see mysterious rock dwellers in the shapes and structures of the rock.
The works in the Solitude series are artistic considerations and a search for a graphic implementation of all of this

« Inner and outer freedom, harmonious coexistence in mutual respect, and aesthetics are my life principles. »
Steffi-Babett Wartenberg is a painter and illustrator from Germany whose works have been exhibited widely across the country. In her Schwarm series, for example, she focuses on the fascinating dynamics and apparent limitlessness of flocks of animals. In the works in the Solitude series, she captures the essence of isolation, spatial confinement and the quiet contemplation of loneliness. Her colorful series Farbklang und Linienspur is about the subtle interactions of lines, colors and shapes. Each work is a testament to her exploration of interpersonal relationships, inner conflicts or her relationship to nature. Wartenberg's distinctive compositions are usually created with ink, graphite, watercolor and acrylic on canvas, cardboard and paper. Welcome to her world of abstract representation, a visual language of reflection.
