I attended art college, but my apprenticeship with painter Wesley E. Johnson was where I discovered my love for abstract art. Artists are taught technique and how to see and draw the figurative world, but expression is from the soul; the soul seeks freedom. I find that freedom in painting non-representational art. Applying blind contour drawing techniques, usually with black paint and a brush or sponge, I choose lines and contrast from what emerges to establish a strong basic foundation in my composition. Those who enjoy my art find things within my painting to amuse their imagination, but I paint without interpreting a specific space or figure: I simply clear my mind, take a swing at it and let the painting begin revealing itself to me. This new, unique image is what's so exciting to me. I know it's complete when the image, the lines, the composition and color simply sing to me! This is why I continue to paint. This is my language transformed with paint for the pleasure of the viewer.
