About this artwork
This picture was taken after a summer evening in Hamburg. I was on the ferry line 62 across the Elbe; the moon was bright in the sky, shimmering silver in the waves. This romantic atmosphere touched me deeply. The strong blue tones with sandy textures merge on the round canvas to create an almost mystical atmosphere. The silver accents represent the light of the moon on the water. Two small rectangles measuring 6 cm x 2 cm are reminiscent of ferry… line 62, which always runs its route twice. For me, this picture is an expression of my feelings, my memory of this magical moment, a summer evening on the water.
Susan Metzendorf, a Hamburg-based painter, works with acrylic paints, pigments, inks, and textures. Her works emerge from a color mood and are an interplay of color gradients, geometric forms, and emotional depth. Influenced by her work as a mathematics educator, she translates experiences, thoughts, and feelings into pictorial compositions of circles, squares, or rectangles in specific numerical ratios, which are interrelated in a variety of ways. Her abstract paintings invite you to take an inner journey and aim to give the viewer hope, joy and motivation.
