About this artwork
In 'Migrate' I use the geometric framework found stickers in the form of contact alarm strips, that I have been discovering in the street, as my form. Painted on linen stretched to a bespoke frame, the alarm metaphor has become so strong and multilayered, that I use it here to talk about rising temperatures on the planet and global.
I am referencing the notion of abstract art of the 20th century in the context of climate change. I see a connection… between the growth of Modernism, the conceptual interest in geometric and abstract art with the burgeoning oil and gas industry. In 'Migrate' have embellished the alarm with reflective stickers that echo the scattering of particles in the centre of the image and have submerged most of the surface in a cosmic wave.
This art work is to be are experienced as an object in itself, standing out from the wall.
A deliberately beguiling conversation piece, it speaks of beauty and pain in one and the same image.

Susie Wright is a London born artist and curator who lives and works in Germany.
