Lotus capsules represent purity, renewal, and the cycle of life. In my series on "Orpheus and Eurydice," they are a well-suited element for the underworld. Eurydice, who led a virtuous life during her lifetime, must descend into the underworld after her death and is allowed to remain in Elysium, Hades' paradise. The lotus capsule could be a metaphor for Eurydice's purity. Orpheus, who wants to rescue his beloved wife from the underworld, attempts… to break death through the cycle of life. He, too, can be considered a synonym for the lotus capsule.
