Liberty Leading the People (French: La Liberté guidant le peuple is a painting by Eugène Delacroix commemorating the July Revolution of 1830,Lady Liberty leads a varied group of people forward over a barricade and the bodies of the fallen, holding the flag of the French Revolution – the tricolour, which became France's national flag after these events – in one hand and brandishing a bayoneted musket with the other. The figure of Liberty is today… known as Marianne in France. The painting is sometimes wrongly thought to depict the French Revolution of 1789. The large painting Liberty Leading the People is exhibited in the Louvre in Paris.
I saw this painting as child in paris and many years later it inspired my to call myself DELLACROIX after Delacroix but with 2 LL’s taken from my name DELLERT:
Thomas Dellert is an internationally renowned Swedish painter and photographer who has taken part in numerous solo exhibitions throughout the United States and several European nations. His works are featured in the permanent collections of the Holocaust Memorial Museum (Washington DC), Heinz, Mercedes Benz, Absolute Vodka and the Swedish Royal Family, to name a few. Combining satirical and historical elements, Dellert mixes painting, collage and graphic art to convey both the deep darkness and shining hope of humanity.
