About this artwork
The precursor for the ‘Moral Expressionism’ series comes this weird medley of geometric shape and surrealist, figurative form. Presented at the recent ‘Age of the People with their Heads in Boxes’ exhibition this work delves deep into the juxtapositions of contemporary society and questions the validity of where we are going as a race.
At the centre of the diptych is a black female figure presented with a featureless face, her head in a box. This… emblem of Mother Earth is contained and melancholic; a slave to the actions of withered, violent man who’s exponential growth is causing global destabilisation, mass extinction and the forced breakdown of species and ecosystems. I created the first two paintings of 'Something Missing' as separate pieces but as they developed they wanted to be displayed together. The canvases and the figures within them are interchangeable and at times upside down. One could exhibit the paintings separately or together or hung as a portrait or landscape.
