About this artwork

The Voices series presents a set of ceramic busts that read the human portrait as a topography of memory. The Voices 24 explores the emotional dialogue between humanity and the performance of emotion. The figure is covered in a checkerboard grid of squares in brown, cream, and teal, each stamped with letters spelling "HAPPY" alongside heart cutouts. A disc crowns the head like a halo or hat. The repetition suggests both mantra and mask- happiness… as something we proclaim, construct, and wear upon our surface.
