I explore mortality and identity through a series of journeys through the landscape. I’ve been inspired by the work of land artists and performance artists besides photographers, from Richard Long through Ana Mendieta to the work of Anne Golaz, Bertien van Manen as well as Paul Caponigro, Robert Adams, Awoiska van der Molen and Thomas Joshua Cooper.
I was born in Dublin but have worked in the US for many years. I am now a photographer and film-maker, albeit with an extensive background in curation and art direction. I've produced three feature films and a number of shorts, but my main medium is photography. I also pursue publishing, collaborating with poets and writers especially scientists.
I generally approach my subjects through a prolonged period of discovery, I move forward on the basis of trust and eventually something emerges from the work.
I explore intimate landscapes, notably ritual sites or where the remains of humanity are present in various forms.
