About this artwork
The painter depicts the colors of a changing room in a large clothing store. While shopping, she took photos of the neighboring cabin and used this as a motif for the painting. Ulla Kutter was interested in the design and colors with which the customers are positively received in such an Interrior. The result was a painting with very subtle and appealing color nuances, the "Colors of shopping". The mirror in the background gives the picture a spatial… depth.
The lighting is also shown very precisely, so that each piece of wall and floor have different nuances. A customer has obviously left the shoes, which are still tagged with goods security, and a price tag is on the floor. These narrative elements complete the picture. It tells the story of a clothing shop in our time without judgment.
« The process of color-sensitive, soft, slow painting contrasts with the speed and indifference of everyday life. I take part of my surroundings and make art out of it. »
The perception of Ulla Kutter's environment is shaped by the focus on disharmonious compositions and their aesthetics. The German painter portrays the broken, chaotic, and shining aspects of everyday life in the city. Through her images, she creates possibilities for different levels of perception. Kutter paints using the traditional techniques of old Dutch masters, using oils on canvas.
