In the Renaissance or Humanism there exists, in my opinion, a double face, a double criterion of interpretation.
On the one hand, with the fall of medieval theocentrism, man regains much of his potential, both creatively and scientifically, but at the same time, under a leading individualism, the seeds of that rationalist and scientistic "ideology" are sown, which later on were the legitimation of what was modern technology and technocracy. Therefore,… paradoxically, with the Renaissance humanity becomes freer, but at the same time in the following eras it suffers alienation due to the formation of a technocratic and consumerist civilization.
In the work represented, naturally inspired by Leonardo, this duplicity is evident: in the face of an undisputed stylistic and sublime beauty, the first signs of criticality appear on the horizon. The work is a digital on canvas with interventions of oil paints.
Umberto Salmeri, with his roots in the fascinating world of colors and traditional techniques, has skillfully incorporated digital, the only tools that are well suited to his continuous stylistic experimentation. The artist draws on the numerous techniques and styles acquired over time, blending classical painting with digital art in polyfacetic images. In his work, the emotion of beauty merges with spiritual growth, giving a "meta-perception" that is intimately personal and universal at the same time. My website: www.umbertosalmeri.com
