About this artwork
The work, made with mixed technique (digital and oil painting on canvas, enclosed in a protective plexiglass panel) is a revisitation and reworking of a detail of the frescoes by Masolino da Panicale made at the Baptistery of Castiglione Olona. In the History of Art we can see in various works, especially from the Renaissance period, the existence of a symbolic but enigmatic and even almost metaphysical reference to mysterious objects coming from… the sky, objects that can make one think of alien entities and, given the era, transcendental. Think for example of the famous Madonna and San Giovannino by Filippo Lippi, also known as Madonna dell'ufo. In this regard I can say that there is a whole literature on "sacred ufology" and I am particularly fascinated by it to say the least. As obvious as it may be, this ufology has very little to do with the current modern one.
Umberto Salmeri, with his roots in the fascinating world of colors and traditional techniques, has skillfully incorporated digital, the only tools that are well suited to his continuous stylistic experimentation. The artist draws on the numerous techniques and styles acquired over time, blending classical painting with digital art in polyfacetic images. In his work, the emotion of beauty merges with spiritual growth, giving a "meta-perception" that is intimately personal and universal at the same time. My website: www.umbertosalmeri.com
