About this artwork
The area in cadmium orange in the center of the left half of the picture shines most brightly.
The dark tones consist largely of superimposed madder glazes.
The painting does not depict a concrete object. The blurring and the cloudy character of the depiction are reminiscent of the intense, warm atmosphere of a sunset. It could show a section, a section of the evening… sky, at the end of a hot summer day. In general, the sky is imagined to be blue, or sometimes grey, especially on rainy days. But the sky and clouds can reflect incredible colors, as in this picture. The title Abendrot suggests this. The dark spots in red, but also resemble sunspots, on the visible surface of the sun and would therefore be a sign of increased solar activity.

They reveal the conditions under which form – and thus reality – comes into being. What remains is not an image, but a trace of becoming.
