About this artwork
This artwork was created exclusively in this Imbuia wood and natural agate configuration. Part of the Nalendece series, Bavessia explores the relationship between natural materials and the transformations we experience as human beings. Sculpted wood carries the marks of time and experience, while raw natural stones represent something deeper and enduring within us — our essence.
Bavessia was inspired by the story of a commander who, upon reaching… a new land, ordered his own ships to be burned, leaving no possibility of returning. This story resonated with the artist during important moments of decision in her life, when choosing security and what was familiar could also mean preventing herself from moving forward. The raw stone outside the boat represents what remains when we let go of the structures that once protected us. Bavessia is about surrender, decision, and crossing.
