About this artwork
Through the "DOOOONG" series, I wanted to combine light and musicality. To find the perfect wave where the general tone of the work vibrated, in this case: 55 Hz. I first painted the concentric lines with a very thick paint with magenta paint. I then covered the whole thing with gold leaf. Once completely dry, I delicately sanded the circle to reveal the texture of the paint under the gold. The work changes appearance throughout the day thanks to…
the marriage of the opacity of the paint and the shine of the gold leaf.

Victor Abel, a Canadian artist living in Réunion Island, explores the relationship between material, gesture, and light. His work, rooted in research on colors, shapes, and contrasts, is characterized in particular by the use of metal supports and gold leaf gilding. Through his works, he questions the viewer's perception, playing on the effects of depth and movement.
Trained in both traditional techniques and contemporary approaches, he makes his own paints from natural pigments and experiments with processes to bring to life compositions where abstraction dialogues with symbols.
Alongside his creative work, he designs site-specific performances and installations, placing his art in atypical spaces. He also invests in the transmission of knowledge by offering training courses and workshops aimed at different audiences, from young creators to established artists.
