About this artwork
This golden DOOOONG, whose heart vibrates with a deep ultramarine blue, embodies the encounter between light and silence; between matter and vibrations. The gold leaf, applied by hand, captures the light with an almost solar intensity, while the blue center acts as a note of inner resonance, a point of calm amidst the radiance.
True to the spirit of the DOOOONG series, the work combines minimalism with a sensual, material quality. The concentric… circles, both rigorous and sensitive, evoke the propagation of sound, a wave, or a breath. This blue, derived from mineral pigments, seems to absorb light, offering a soothing contrast to the warmth of the metal.
Between contemplation and energy, this piece invites the observer to refocus, to perceive the harmony hidden behind formal simplicity. Like a visual gong, it resonates within the space and reminds us that all beauty is born from the right frequency: that where matter meets spirit.
Victor Abel, a Canadian artist living in Réunion Island, explores the relationship between material, gesture, and light. His work, rooted in research on colors, shapes, and contrasts, is characterized in particular by the use of metal supports and gold leaf gilding. Through his works, he questions the viewer's perception, playing on the effects of depth and movement.
Trained in both traditional techniques and contemporary approaches, he makes his own paints from natural pigments and experiments with processes to bring to life compositions where abstraction dialogues with symbols.
Alongside his creative work, he designs site-specific performances and installations, placing his art in atypical spaces. He also invests in the transmission of knowledge by offering training courses and workshops aimed at different audiences, from young creators to established artists.
