About this artwork
This work belongs to the series "Clothing and Identity," where I explore the connection between our clothing and our being and sense of belonging. How much of what we wear responds to a need to belong or to present ourselves in a certain way? I see clothing as a barrier between the collective social sphere and our intimacy. How often do we depend on how we are supposed to look rather than how we choose to dress? This piece is a dress that takes on…
a human form, hanging from an antique metal children's clothing hanger that I salvaged. The piece can be seen as a metallic textile since it is constructed with aluminum wire mesh of varying weaves. It invites deep reflection on the place that fashion and how we present ourselves occupy in our lives.
