About this artwork
"Neon Diva" is my visual homage to self-presentation, strength, and the play with surfaces. The figure in the image is loud, self-confident, and glares brightly toward the world – in neon pink and flaming orange. Her oversized sunglasses act as a shield against outside gaze, but at the same time, they also serve as a stage for attitude and coolness.
The diva appears aloof, exaggerated—and yet there are small, vulnerable details: for example, the… childlike sketch of a figure on her cheek, which forms a quiet contrast to the loud color scheme. For me, this tension between strength and sensitivity is the core of the painting.
I wanted to create a powerful, contemporary portrait with this work—a modern icon in the style of pop culture, dazzling yet enigmatic.
Artist Wendy Habegger combines her passion for painting and baking, specializing in acrylic painting. After a career as a baker and pastry chef, she combines various techniques and styles, creating a multifaceted visual language and deliberately pushing the boundaries between analog and digital aesthetics. Her experimental approach and her play with perception and illusion in the form of grid structures and overlays convey emotions, playfulness, and irony, as well as deeper themes of identity and self in the digital space.
