About this artwork
“Opus 2 – The Fabric of Silence” grows directly out of the vocabulary I began in “Weighted Silence.” Here the layered, cloth-like textures become a woven ground for a more restrained set of etched symbols — echoes of the marks from the first work, now muted so they whisper instead of announce. Subtle greys and pinks create the feeling of unbleached fabric, while small sparks of yellow and a single point of blue act as threads holding the composition… together. As the series progresses, I’m interested in how these surfaces and markings evolve, becoming both a record of my process and an invitation for viewers to sense their own narratives within the quiet spaces.
William Hall, an American painter and sculptor with a background in experimental art and formal training at the University of Texas, melds painting and sculptural techniques into striking “wall reliefs.” He works primarily with masonry materials—cement, grout, mortar, plaster—invoking the tactile quality of earth itself, often employing casting, pouring, polishing, and acid staining for infinite textures. Inspired by the raw mechanics of the natural world and his Native American heritage, he seeks to evoke awe, inviting the viewer to experience the meditative surrender and serendipity present in his artistic process.
