About this artwork
This painting comes from a memory of a quiet country lane near where my grandparents lived. I painted it more from feeling than reference, recalling the light after sunset, the dark fields, and the line of old telephone poles fading into the sky. The Maritime Alps sit in the distance, holding the scene in a familiar calm. Those tiny dots of light are people already home, evening quietly underway.
It is part real place, and part remembered experience,… a simple moment when the end of the day becomes reflective. I kept the forms reduced and the palette soft so the atmosphere could speak. The sky carries a touch of tension, the road a sense of quiet, and together they hold a balance I often look for in my work.

Wolfango Chiappella
United Kingdom
Wolfango Chiappella is an Italian-born painter based in Buckinghamshire, UK. Raised in the Piedmont countryside, his work is rooted in rural landscapes and the quiet edges of towns. He paints primarily in oil on panel or canvas, using restrained colour, softened forms and an emphasis on atmosphere.
His paintings often begin with real places, fields, paths, waterways or overlooked corners, but shift in the studio towards simplified, pared-back compositions. Rather than describing a location, his work focuses on stillness, distance, and the weight of light and weather. Drawing on landscapes from both Italy and Britain, his paintings sit between observation and memory, allowing familiar places to become quieter, stranger and less certain.
