About this artwork
The small sculpture "Island" depicts a group of human figures in extreme spatial density. Due to the confined space, the bodies are inextricably linked. Proximity arises not from choice, but from the spatial situation itself, developing its own ongoing dynamic.
The depicted constellation appears as a snapshot of a constantly shifting network of relationships. Each figure maintains an individual posture while simultaneously being part of a shared… body. Touch appears ambivalent – as support, burden, or boundary. The rough surface and fragmentary formal language underscore the fluid state between isolation and community.

Wolfgang Eckert is a sculptor based in Germany whose works have been exhibited both nationally and in France. Fascinated by the connection between plastic-spatial relationships and the human expression that becomes evident in them, his pieces are an "observation of nature and exploration of individuality". In addition, Eckert's pieces are self-reflective and inspired by his memories. His diverse compositions are created using cement and plaster.
