About this artwork
Inspired by the banyan tree, this painting reflects the idea of growth through multiple roots. Just as the tree extends its branches and forms new trunks when they reach the earth, I see my own journey shaped by different places, cultures, and experiences that have taken root within me.
The work emerged from a process of accepting and integrating these diverse origins. Rather than separating them, I embraced their coexistence as a source of strength… and expansion.
Through layered acrylic and oil pastel, I explore organic forms that suggest connection, extension, and grounding. The composition developed intuitively, mirroring the balance between movement and stability.
This piece speaks to identity, belonging, and growth, inviting the viewer to reflect on their own roots and the importance of embracing where they come from in order to fully evolve.
Alejandra Abad is a Swiss–Ecuadorian painter whose multicultural background deeply informs her practice. She creates primarily abstract works using intuitive, spontaneous techniques, letting color, movement, and layered compositions translate her emotional states and personal narratives onto canvas. Her style is vibrant and cathartic, embracing improvisation and a dialogue between light and shadow. Through her art, she conveys a resonant sense of longing, transformation, and the journey toward self-acceptance—evoking feelings of connection, wholeness, and the beauty of integrating all facets of one’s identity.
