About this artwork
“Every Step Counts” reflects a journey shaped by experience, connection, and quiet perseverance. Inspired by my time working during Art Basel, the piece emerged from a realization that growth is not defined by what we see in a single moment, but by the path we continue to walk.
Through encounters, collaborations, and shared experiences across different places and cultures, each step revealed its value over time. What once felt like missed opportunities… became meaningful building blocks, leading to new spaces, exhibitions, and connections.
Using layered acrylic and oil pastel, I explore movement and accumulation, allowing the composition to unfold intuitively. The work embodies trust in one’s path, resilience, and the belief that even unseen steps carry us forward. It is a reflection on persistence, grounding, and creating from a place of intention and inner direction.
Alejandra Abad is a Swiss–Ecuadorian painter whose multicultural background deeply informs her practice. She creates primarily abstract works using intuitive, spontaneous techniques, letting color, movement, and layered compositions translate her emotional states and personal narratives onto canvas. Her style is vibrant and cathartic, embracing improvisation and a dialogue between light and shadow. Through her art, she conveys a resonant sense of longing, transformation, and the journey toward self-acceptance—evoking feelings of connection, wholeness, and the beauty of integrating all facets of one’s identity.
