About this artwork
“Moving Forward” began as a completed work in 2024, but was later reopened and transformed through a process of release and rediscovery. I chose to dissolve its defined patterns and allow something more fluid and instinctive to emerge.
Guided by music, I entered an extended state of flow, painting intuitively and engaging physically with the canvas. The process became a channel for emotion - passion, love, anger, and vulnerability - moving freely… through gesture and form.
Through layered acrylic and oil pastel, the composition evolved into something organic and alive, suggesting growth and continuous becoming. This piece marks a shift in my practice, embracing uncertainty and transformation.
It invites the viewer into a space of movement and emergence, where letting go becomes the starting point for something new.
Alejandra Abad is a Swiss–Ecuadorian painter whose multicultural background deeply informs her practice. She creates primarily abstract works using intuitive, spontaneous techniques, letting color, movement, and layered compositions translate her emotional states and personal narratives onto canvas. Her style is vibrant and cathartic, embracing improvisation and a dialogue between light and shadow. Through her art, she conveys a resonant sense of longing, transformation, and the journey toward self-acceptance—evoking feelings of connection, wholeness, and the beauty of integrating all facets of one’s identity.
