About this artwork
“What a Pleasure” is the largest painting I have created to date, born from a journey through pain, anger, and sadness. It emerged when I recognized my own darkness and gave it space to exist. Over time, light, hope, and joy returned, transforming winter into spring and pain into liberation.
Through layered acrylic and oil pastel, the work captures this process of growth and integration, reflecting the balance between shadow and light. Inspired… by Carl Jung’s idea that wholeness comes from embracing all parts of ourselves, the painting invites viewers to witness a moment of transformation, resilience, and the quiet joy that follows acceptance.

Alejandra Abad is a Swiss–Ecuadorian painter whose multicultural background deeply informs her practice. She creates primarily abstract works using intuitive, spontaneous techniques, letting color, movement, and layered compositions translate her emotional states and personal narratives onto canvas. Her style is vibrant and cathartic, embracing improvisation and a dialogue between light and shadow. Through her art, she conveys a resonant sense of longing, transformation, and the journey toward self-acceptance—evoking feelings of connection, wholeness, and the beauty of integrating all facets of one’s identity.
