About this artwork
In "Cosmo," Benetti explores the universe with an archaic and symbolic visual language informed by Neo-Cave research. On a bas-relief surface created with a gesso ground on canvas, the artist uses oil and henna in a composition dense with signs, geometric shapes, and evocative colors. The work presents itself as an ancestral cosmic map, in which circles, ovals, triangles, and star-like figures emerge from a textured background reminiscent of ancient… cave walls. The sinuous lines traverse the visual field with an orbital rhythm, creating connections between symbols like planetary trajectories or primordial bonds. The use of henna introduces a ritualistic and organic note, accentuating the connection between artistic gesture and the sacredness of the sign. He does not represent the cosmos in an astronomical sense, but creates an interior, mythical vision of it, made up of universal symbols and collective memories. Cosmo is a journey through matter and spirit, a visual alchemy that unites prehistory and contemporaneity.
« The painting of the future was born in caves, since art has always been the most fascinating medium with which matter depicts the spirit. »
