The artwork is an aquatint etching. A copper plate was used, onto which the motif was first incised with an etching needle. A total of two copper plates were used. With the charming image of the playful monkeys, the artist creates a link to the past. The source material for this illustration comes from the island of Thera/Santorini. In the town of Akrotiri, in the so-called House of the Monkeys, there is a Bronze Age fresco that served as Andrea's… model and inspiration. This vintage style evokes a feeling of nostalgia and transports antiquity into our modern age. The vibrant blue print is matted and framed.
Andrea Finck is a contemporary painter with a background in archaeology and art history. Her work explores the themes of landscape, time, and cultural memory. Starting with natural and coastal landscapes, multi-layered pictorial spaces emerge in which color, material, and layering overlap. Landscape is understood as a vehicle of time and perception, not as a mere representation. In her work, painting and printmaking combine to create open processes between observation, transformation, and dissolution. Her works have been shown in national and international exhibitions and are held in private collections.
