“Small Lights” is a multi-layered mixed-media work that explores the theme of hidden light.
Countless golden fragments seem to burst forth from the depths of the surface – like tiny points of light making their way through darkness and material. Textile structures, hand-embroidered elements, and handcrafted materials coalesce into a relief-like center reminiscent of organic forms or natural landscapes.
The gold leaf captures the light, making… the artwork appear vibrant and luminous depending on the perspective. The warm, earthy tones, combined with the metallic accents, create a unique tension between weight and radiance, between transience and value.
“Small Lights” invites you to take your time: The surface only reveals its details upon closer inspection and tells of transformation, condensation and the emergence of beauty from fragments.
Anke Pradel-Schönknecht uses textile materials as well as painting, collage, and mixed media – her creative path led her from classical painting through studies in textile and surface design to experimental textile art. With sophisticated techniques such as dyeing, printing, sewing, and layering diverse materials, she creates three-dimensional relief images and art quilts that combine tactile and visual stimuli. Her artworks convey curiosity, sensuality, and a captivating depth; they invite viewers to understand structures not only visually but also emotionally.
