About this artwork
Ann’s appreciation of nature flows through all of her artwork, no more obviously so than in her observational studies of flowers. Abstract Rose is a framed oil painting in which the viewer peers up at the rose from an angle, as if lying beneath it, rather than looking down at its centre from standing. There is movement in the brushstrokes and a sensuous beauty that emanates from the canvas. The petals nearly fill the entire space, drawing attention…
to the centre of the bud as the main focal point. Darker shades of pink contrast with whites, the depiction of light and shadows bringing depth to the image.
