About this artwork
This piece is all about flow and feel. I lost myself in the flow of the plaster under my fingers as it ran grooves and shaped the silky roundness of the forms. And when i was finished, I realised I had made a beautiful expression of isolation, communicating a yearning and profound need for meaningful human connection. The static smooth shapes represent isolated individual souls, forever separate, bobbing in the flow of Universal energy. That energy,… in sinuous and dynamic plaster tracks, moves around and between the shapes in a way that suggests future connection…attraction…gravity pulling the individuals towards each other. In this we see the potential for even the most isolated souls to make meaningful connections with others, if only they could surrender themselves to the universal flow.
Christina Ayer is a painter, mosaicist, and writer with a BA from McGill University, blending decades of experience and self-taught innovation across painting and mosaic mediums. She employs abstract expressionist techniques—often gestural and lyrical—utilizing mixed media to create tactile, multi-sensory works that challenge imposed structures. Her art radiates a yearning for spiritual awakening and authentic truth, inviting viewers to experience freedom, play, and unchained creativity that transcends ordinary perception.
