The lake had been still all morning as I walked the shore, a slight ripple, not a gull’s cry—just the slow churn of clouds gathering. The wind hadn’t arrived yet, but the trees knew as I could see it in the way the spruce leaned ever so slightly inland. On the rocky shore, moss clung to cracks and the grass bent low. horizon, the islands blurred into shadow. This was the moment that the lake held its breath, and everything went silent. The storm hadn’t broken yet, but it was close. You could feel it in your teeth. The kind of storm that rearranges shorelines but for now, the lake waited. This was the inspiration for this painting
