About this artwork
This female nude owes its title to the fact that the model and the ground on which she is lying are entirely covered by geometric-looking graffiti. The cutting of shapes and colors makes the whole thing quite abstract, the curves of the body seem contradicted by the rigor of the lines and surfaces, making us forget that we are facing a nude. A bit as if Mondrian had decided to return to the figurative, but without succeeding in abandoning the sense… of composition that made him famous...
This painting is a unique piece produced in mixed technique on canvas combining photography, digital composition and acrylic painting (multiple transparent glazes which give a lacquered and square effect in relief). The work is framed in black wood (total dimensions: approximately 39 x 53 x 3.5 cm)
« In the age of digital technologies, I couldn't just be a painter or a photographer. My 'paintographies' destroy borders and offer a resolutely contemporary hybrid art. »
Georges Dumas's artistic approach is both simple and complex. While the aesthetic of his works, which he describes as "paintographies," is highly figurative, their composition is slow and complex, blending photography, digital art, and acrylic paint. Georges Dumas transforms the models he photographs into virtual sculptures by replacing their skin with mineral materials to represent both the passage of time and the fragility of the body.
