About this artwork
This painting shows a female bust entirely covered with a predominantly red paint. We see a woman who pushes aside the tails of her negligee, thus revealing her nudity, her intimacy, in a frank and simple gesture which exposes her body. With the squares carved into her stomach, chest and arms, but also with all the signs of wear, scratches, scuffs and peeling paint, it's as if the model is showing her hidden wounds, her secret scars , those of time… that damages everything, others perhaps...
This painting is a unique piece made in mixed technique on canvas and mixing photography, digital composition and acrylic painting (glaze and transparent squares in relief). It is framed in black American box (dimensions: approximately 56 x 81 x 3.5 cm)
« In the age of digital technologies, I couldn't just be a painter or a photographer. My 'paintographies' destroy borders and offer a resolutely contemporary hybrid art. »
Georges Dumas's artistic approach is both simple and complex. While the aesthetic of his works, which he describes as "paintographies," is highly figurative, their composition is slow and complex, blending photography, digital art, and acrylic paint. Georges Dumas transforms the models he photographs into virtual sculptures by replacing their skin with mineral materials to represent both the passage of time and the fragility of the body.
