About this artwork
"Crucifixion" is constructed as a restrained presence, more suggested than declared. The surface is fragmented into irregular fields, seams and junctions that evoke a divided body, subjected to pressure and recomposition. At the center, a framed cavity interrupts the continuity of the plane, becoming a point of suspension and expectation.
The material retains traces of abrasions, burns, and minimal chromatic deposits, in which red emerges as a… residue rather than an explicit sign. The light dwells on the discontinuities, making scars and internal tensions visible, while the color recedes, leaving room for a silent and restrained dimension.
The work is part of a research on crucifixion as a condition, not as an image: a state of compression and resistance in which the surface does not recount the sacrifice, but preserves its material and temporal imprint.
Giampiero Riccobello, born in Rome, works between Rome and Milan, using painting, sculpture, and unconventional materials, drawing on a background in art history. His style oscillates between informal abstraction and conceptual exploration, favoring processes of layering, subtraction, and material interventions on neutral surfaces, with earthy colors and unexpected accents. His works evoke an indirect human presence and transform common materials into symbols, conveying a sense of suspension, intimacy, and a reflection on memory and the passage of time.
