About this artwork
Jason has completed another art piece in the Shape Study series. He is continuing to investigate the two types of patinas used, that of a wood looking patina and that of completely nude steel, both of which are so seldom seen. The use of offsetting the pieces from the backplate is further utilized providing depth and character which changes depending on what angle you are viewing it from.

Jason Rhinevault primarily works with negative spaces and depth in his pieces. The American sculptor offsets some of his compositions from the back mounting plate, by as much as an inch, creating a visual illusion. The use of negative space and depth gives the viewer several aspects to consider. Rhinevault is drawn to metal, as a medium, for its strength and organic qualities. He considers the patina application as important as the welding process.
