About this artwork
During a trip to California to visit the famous Death Valley area he came across the old Route 66 when returning to Los Angeles and found this restaurant overgrown and decaying. The image is a powerful one with the juxtaposition of trees, shrubs, signage and the decaying artwork on the facade of the building. The multitude of horizontal lines in the image of the power lines and road markings add a sense of movement as a contradiction to the condition…

John Brooks is a British visual artist who is currently living and working in Bristol, UK. Through his photography, Brooks wishes to project a visual and emotional response that extends far beyond the pictorial. His photographs, both analogue and digital, often employ a layering affect where a subject becomes doubled or tripled, thereby creating an illusion of volume, depth and spatiality. His photographs can reflect the imposing nature of urbanism and play with perspective to create an illusory world.
His other works include well though through abstract studies and minimalist works, some architectural and some topographical.
