About this artwork
Aquarius is a mixed media installation that combines painting mosaic and light into a single sculptural surface.
The work is built on a 24 x 24 inch OSB panel with the raw industrial texture left exposed on purpose. The central subject is constructed entirely from shattered glass placed piece by piece to create depth and shading without traditional paint modeling. Different tones of glass catch and bend light causing the image to shift depending… on angle and environment.
The glass is sealed with UV resin to stabilize the surface and increase reflectivity. Acrylic paint activates the surrounding field while acrylic marker is used for sharp details and controlled accents.
This piece is also designed as an installation. Holes are drilled through the panel and filled with embedded LEDs arranged in the Aquarius constellation. When illuminated the light passes through the work instead of sitting on top of it creating a second spatial layer.
