About this artwork
This painting is an expression of wild, untamed growth. It is inspired by dense foliage, and I let the colors lead the way. Each leaf and shape was built through layered brushwork, capturing the energy that comes from being surrounded by living things.
I wanted the composition to feel alive, almost like stepping into a place where nature has taken over. The leaves overlap and twist, creating movement and rhythm across the surface. I worked intuitively,… allowing the forms to emerge as I painted, following color, gesture, and instinct.
This piece is about abundance, color, and chaos. It is about the freedom found in nature when it grows.

Kyla Johnk is a painter, photographer, and printmaker with a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art who has exhibited internationally in Madrid and San Francisco. She masterfully blends mediums, often merging nature-inspired images with inventive uses of texture, color, and abstract light, as seen in her series utilizing tin foil and reflected light. Her close-up, movement-driven compositions explore overlooked patterns and forms, inviting the viewer to feel suspended in time. It is an invitation to pause, to observe, and to see a moment close up.
