About this artwork
Captured in a bathroom of a Korean BBQ restaurant, this image came from a moment that caught me off guard. I was drawn in by the reflection of hues and light, the way the surfaces interacted and shimmered. There was a surprising sense of beauty in the scene. The colors, the symmetry and the atmosphere felt too vivid to ignore. I reached for my camera.

Kyla Johnk is a painter, photographer, and printmaker with a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art who has exhibited internationally in Madrid and San Francisco. She masterfully blends mediums, often merging nature-inspired images with inventive uses of texture, color, and abstract light, as seen in her series utilizing tin foil and reflected light. Her close-up, movement-driven compositions explore overlooked patterns and forms, inviting the viewer to feel suspended in time.
