“outside MA” is part of an exclusive series created during and after a formative trip to Japan. The work has already been presented in a temple in Kyoto – an extraordinary context that has profoundly shaped its unique atmosphere and spiritual depth.
Painted on untreated canvas, the image unfolds a powerful presence: luminous, intense reds and energetic gestures meet deliberately left-out passages where stillness, space, and breath become visible.… This interplay between fullness and emptiness—between movement and restraint—references the Japanese concept of "MA," which emphasizes the in-between, the unspoken, and the potential that lies between. "outside MA" embodies precisely this dynamic dialogue. The composition appears wild and immediate, yet remains thoughtful and open. The work is part of a series that delves deeply into perception, presence, and inner landscape.
