In Limes I, I explore the concept of visual boundary through an absolute and vibrant ultramarine blue.
With this work, I seek to give substance to the 'Subtle Substance': I don't paint a simple color, but rather open a mental space in which the observer can immerse themselves. My gesture on the 300g Fabriano paper is a ritual: a horizontal stroke interrupted by streaks of light, signs of energy emerging from the infinite blue. Here, I seek the balance… between the density of the absolute and the silence of the essential sign.
The work is part of the Limes series and can be displayed individually or paired with its twin to create a monumental diptych.
Maria Dobrican uses organic materials and natural supports such as jute, poplar wood, and paper, drawing on a rich background of experimentation with traditional and innovative techniques. Her research is expressed through a minimal and material abstraction that balances geometric rigor and organic spontaneity, with layers of coffee, ink, oil, and turpentine. Her works evoke profound silences and interior landscapes, conveying a sense of meditative peace and inviting the viewer to explore the threshold between matter and spirit.
