A work from my "Melanie" series, created straight from my heart, symbolic, honest, and vulnerable. In mixed media, acrylic on wood, I combine painting and sculpture: I cast parts of my body in plaster because physical traces make my memories and my commitment tangible, so that image and object become one. The dark color expresses the burden and silence that often surrounds victims of child sexual abuse; my broken heart simultaneously stands as a… representative for all who share these experiences. The golden edges represent the tears of those affected by child sexual abuse; I use this gold as a sign of recognition for their pain and their strength. In white, I draw the pulse of my heart, for from this pulse springs my strength: my cast hands, holding a sphere of light, symbolize the light that I bring into the shadows with my art. Beneath these hands, children walk hand in hand into freedom...
Melanie Meyer, a self-taught artist, dedicates her work to the intensive exploration of human experience. Her sculptures and paintings express an emotional journey and focus particularly on the issue of sexual violence against children. Her art gives a voice to those affected worldwide, breaks taboos, demands justice, and serves as a testament to suffering and resilience. Driven by the search for humanity and the exploration of human existence, she creates multifaceted art that touches and inspires reflection. She sees her works as powerful instruments to bring light into an often dark world and to remind us of the inalienable nature of our humanity. She is currently seeking sponsors who share her vision to further develop her exhibition "Because what must not be cannot be," a memorial dedicated to the victims of sexual violence.
