FREE is a piece that will spell the word free no matter which way you look at it and celebrates and validates all women and feminist activists like myself who have experienced domestic abuse, emotionally abusive and coercive behaviour and/or religious/sexual coercion in any shape or form… at any stage in their lives either in childhood or adulthood.
The word FREE represents self-care, gratitude, faith and inner confidence which must reign supreme. It is enhanced, aligns itself, complemented by the reclaimed jewels now symbolising friendship, those kind souls who can and will set you free across the canvas. Even if you still feel trapped behind the bars in this piece - one day you will be free.

Natalie Sommer is a self-taught established British painter, sculptor, conceptual and visual artist, and poet, working primarily in acrylic on canvas and mixed media. She is the creator of the unique genres "Scribe Art" and "Storyism," blending vibrant, layered colours, distorted forms, and poetic verses, often incorporating found objects and engraved text.
