"BiChaco Zero" is a monumental 2007 piece that marks a powerful convergence between Pop figuration and Expressionist abstraction.
The work functions as a multiple portrait of real individuals within a social setting. The artist places the subjects in the foreground, imbuing them with a graphic presence and vivid colours that reference Pop aesthetics.
Composition: In this immersive-scale composition, the background structure is key.
The setting… is a canvas of chaotic, gestural abstraction where blocks of colour and dense textures contrast sharply with the crispness of the portraits. While the main figures, accompanied by the woman, retain their autonomy, a fourth individual in the background merges with the abstract field, symbolising the dissolution or transition of the individual into the pictorial context.
The combination of oil, acrylic, and collage underscores the artist's material experimentation.
