The Gaze Beyond
Fish bone and eye fragment mounted on pigmented wooden panel; oak frame with anti-reflective glass.
This work combines a fish eye fragment with elongated bones from a fin, forming a radiating structure that evokes flight, sight, or a moment of emergence. The central shape recalls an iris – calm, focused, yet unknowable.
As with all my pieces, I do not alter the shape of the materials. Instead, I listen. I follow their gesture, their… memory, their silent language. Each element carries its own vibration – a quiet presence that holds more than what is seen.
The Gaze Beyond invites contemplation. It gestures toward perception, presence, and the mystery that lives just beyond the surface.
This piece is part of the series Holding the Invisible – a tribute to Gaia, and to the quiet guardianship of forms that seem to exist between worlds.
Pia Post, a sculptor and conceptual visual artist with roots in interior architecture, cabinetmaking, and international artistic training, works primarily with natural materials such as bones, seeds, and fish spines. Her intuitive, minimal style foregrounds organic textures, quiet geometry, and presence, using custom framing and surfaces to focus the viewer's attention. Post’s art conveys a meditative reverence for nature, inviting contemplation of the cycles of life and the silent, dignified intelligence inherent in overlooked fragments of the natural world.
