The subject, namely this tuft of grass, which is the beginning of a dune in formation, literally decomposes into a cloud of pixels. I express my intention to represent the virtualization of our environment and therefore the divide which is established between us and it, at a time when more and more of us live in urban areas, but also the digitalization of the landscape, whose sole purpose is to be captured in photography through our phone or camera.… The landscape then becomes mediated in relation to us, since it is apprehended through an intermediary, the telephone or the camera. It is only seen and considered as an image that is itself virtual, dematerialized. It becomes abstract.

Romain Liverato, photographer and visual artist, draws his inspiration from the environment. Using landscape photography, which he modifies through various media such as painting, mosaic or collage, he brilliantly illustrates the human impact on nature. His work evokes the disconcerting emotion of this omnipresent alteration, implicating man as the measure - and cause - of all things.
